LVL Up- Hoodwink'd
SPORTS share their top 5 albums of 2014!
"While there's a lot more that could be said about LVL UP's new album, this might be worth a quick remark: just about every song on Hoodwink'd could be a single, but the record still feels perfectly cohesive. It rocks, and it's sincere without whining. Give it a listen or get hexed."
Forth Wanderers- Tough Love
"Forth Wanderers is from Carmen's hometown and their first full length is very easy to fall in love with. Every song feels distinct and the whole thing is something that you will want to listen to over and over again while lying on your back and maybe crying. "Painting of Blue" and "Tough Love" will melt your heart. "
Alex G- DSU
"Alex G has been kickin' around for a few years now, but DSU is his first record to get an official release. Accordingly, it's his most cohesive work and has the feel of a big event. Alex tries on a bunch of disparate styles for size and peppers weird little production flourishes throughout that probably shouldn't work, but his style is so distinctive and singular that you never really bat an eye at the inclusion of a funk song like "Promise." It's dreamy, it's ominous, it's got the goodz from start to finish."
Mitski- Bury Me At Makeout Creek
"Bury Me at Makeout Creek is too goo for this world. "Frances Forever," more like Mitski forever. The record is a pretty drastic departure from her earlier releases (this one featuring a full band) but still stays true to Mitski's most excellent songwriting chops. "
Framkie Cosmos- Zentropy
"Dear diary,
Frankie Cosmos makes me happy to be in NYC. I like to ride the train and listen to her smart songs and look at people reading the newspaper."
